Blog Rehab

blog rehab

I have been blogging a lot in the last few months, in a lot of cases the posts have been in collaboration with brands and PR companies. I have really loved having a greater range of posts on the site, from fashion including TK Maxx to hair-care and cosmetics as well as my usual more pensive posts.

However, I decided about 10 days ago to have a break from blogging just for a week, in part due to health issues (nothing serious) and in part due to feeling of going off topic when it came to the subjects I was writing about. I have always used my blog as a platform to share ideas, thoughts and day-to-day happenings. I have found though that they have become a little few and far between which has lead to me feeling a little blue.

So I put myself through a little blog rehab, a few days away from blogging and social media, to allow my brain some down time and space to reassess what I wanted from blogging, not only in terms of what I wanted to write, but the ways in which I wanted to do it.

I think its healthy to take a step back and evaluate, I really took time to look at what I was producing and if it’s in keeping with the personality both of the blog and more importantly myself. I wrote myself a list of points that I wanted this blog to encompass, and that has become my blog manifesto. A list to live by, not 100% of the time, but if businesses can have a plan why can’t blogs?

i blog because

So from the list I have come to the conclusion that rather than writing for rankings or comments, I would write with passion and conviction. I have accepted that I will never be a fashion blogger, I have neither the time or the passion to dedicate the blog wholly to that, I will however blog about fashion, when its right and in keeping.

I will go back to sharing my thoughts on here, I will be open and share a little of my life with my readers, however it will no longer be just for the readers, it will be for me. I will write, when and how I want, sure I will still collborate with brands, the ones that fit with both me and the blog. I always wanted Awkward to be an online version of me, to represent the world as I see it and be a memoir for me to look back on in years to come.

I also want it to be a place that people love to visit, a haven for hilarity and heartfelt posts, so if there is something you would like me to write more about, then I am all ears. I want this blog to be the best it can be, both for me and my readers, so if you have thoughts, share them in the comments section, I would love to know what you think.

  1. Nice post. I think there can be so much pressure with bloggers to compare yourselves and your blog’s metrics to others and basically forget why we’re doing this – for ourselves really. You have such a fab writing style….honest and well-written. I struggle to open up a bit on my blog….but I think posts like this will remind me to keep trying :)

Lately I’ve noticed more and more bloggers doing this and I think it is really brave and healthy. So, good for you, take the time you need. And for your health, guilt one of your besties to make you this: http://www.itsbwitched.com/cure-common-cold-aka-brittanys-double-roasted-chicken-soup/#sthash.D6AUWLyK.dpbs – I promise it will help!
